The chair’s structural integrity relies on a single-piece laminated shell; its arms and double-curved backrest are moulded in one piece, a technique often used in boatbuilding. The back, arms and curved seat platform are made from a laminated aeroply pressing while the locally soured ash legs spring from it, delivering a lightweight chair that offers strength, movement, flex and comfort.
Part of the Roundwood Chair’s defining character comes from its delicately lathe-turned tapered legs joined at the arm by means of a handsome round-through tenon secured with a timber wedge. Beauty is in the detail. Ben’s design is flawlessly executed by Fowler & Co for Marque Sussex. The backrest and seat are available in a choice of veneers and timbers to suit the customer’s taste.
