Sitting in harmony with its surroundings, the Buggy Store is a site-specific design for The Newt, a luxurious country estate hotel. The curved design pays homage to historic, horse-drawn modes of transport and parabolic elements of the gardens of Hadspen, the main house at The Newt.
All the timber species used in the project were selected for their practicality and locality to Somerset. Over time, the appearance of the building will show the gradual, organic ageing process as the oak shakes move and silver, responding to the elements.
Beyond aesthetics, the Buggy Store offers practical solutions for the site, accommodating sustainable transport for hotel guests, screening vehicles from view as they recharge, and protecting them from the elements, while the centre of the structure offers space for bikes and buggies to manoeuvre.
